New, starting with the 2024 season, all Little League volunteers who are required to complete a Little League Volunteer Application and Background Check must also complete abuse awareness training prior to assuming any of his or her duties for the 2024 season. It is important that all volunteers in a league complete the training on an annual basis. Even though it may be a training an individual has completed in the past, it is important to keep the information that is taught through Abuse Awareness Training fresh in everyone’s mind. The more individuals involved in a league that have the information that Abuse Awareness Training provides, the better. More information about this requirement can be found on the littleleague.org website.

We have selected a free 30 minute course with USA Baseball. Below are the steps you will need to do, in order to be a coach, assistant coach or parent helper with the St. James-Smithtown Little League or Bulls Travel Baseball Organization. 

1. Register for a free account with USA Baseball.

   1. Go to USABDevelops.com or download the USA Baseball app in the Apple App Store or Google Play. (USA Baseball App)

   2. Click “Sign in/Register”

   3. Enter all required information

   4. Select “St James Smithtown LL - Smithtown, NY” from the “Little League – Local Leagues” drop-down menu and click “+Join”

   5. If you have an existing account, click your name in the top right corner, select MY ACCOUNT, and then UPDATE MY PROFILE to link your account with your local Little League.

2. Once registered, you will need to find the “Abuse Awareness for Adult Course”

   1. Click EDUCATION

   2. Select COURSES

   3. Click “Abuse Awareness for Adults”

   4. *If you have completed the Abuse Awareness for Adults course in the past and need an updated certificate, please select the Restart Course button.

      1. Click your name in the top right corner and select MY ACCOUNT

      2. Select COURSES

      3. Scroll to the Abuse Awareness for Adults course and click RESTART COURSE

3. Select the course and then proceed to follow along through the four chapters. 

4. At the end there will be a 10 question quiz which you must score at least an 80% to pass. 

5. After you have completed the course you will be able to download a certificate of completion either from the App, website or completion email.  Please download the certificate and send to [email protected]

   2. Click your name in the top right corner and select MY ACCOUNT

   3. Select COURSES

   4. Scroll to the Abuse Awareness for Adults course and click DOWNLOAD CERTIFICATE

6. Also need to check to make sure your "Little League" has been set properly.  This can be done by going to Account and then Edit Profile, then there is a question about "Little League - Local Leagues". You should be listed under "St. James Smithtown LL - Smithtown, NY". If you are not, you can set it here.
