2023 Opening Day Details and Agenda

This Saturday, April 15, St. James-Smithtown Little League will proudly kick off our 67th season of play with our 2023 Opening Day Parade and Festival.

The following is a full rundown of the day:

Staging

The parade staging area will be located in the former Capital One parking lot on the corner of Lake and Woodlawn Avenues in St. James. All players and coaches should be at the staging area by 10:00 AM. Each team will be assigned a parking spot (written in chalk) to line up in ahead of the parade march.

The order of the parade will be as follows:

2022 9u-11u New York State Softball Champions
T-Ball
6u Baseball
7u Baseball
6/7 Softball
8u Baseball
Minors Baseball
Minors Softball
Majors Baseball
Majors Softball

Players should wear their full Little League uniform (jersey, hat, pants). Teams from 6u-and-up can choose to wear either their red or blue jersey, but please make sure the entire team matches.

Parade

The parade route will be straight down Woodlawn to Gaynor Park. Players will enter through the main park gates with their team and gather on the Gaynor turf field. All parents, please remain off the field both while the players enter and during the Opening Day ceremonies. The march will begin at 11:00 AM sharp.

Banners

All teams are invited to create a banner to walk with during the parade. A winning banner will be chosen to win a team pizza party, so have fun and be creative.

Festival

After brief opening ceremonies, players and their families are invited to enjoy our festival. The day will include family entertainment, such as bounce houses and face painting, food and beverage options, a number of fun demonstrations from some of our wonderful sponsors, and league merchandise available for purchase.

Of course, Opening Day wouldn't be complete without games, and we have plenty on the schedule. Our Majors Softball division will kick off the action on the Gaynor 3 turf, as we present a full slate of exciting match ups all day on all three of our Gaynor fields.

Parking

No parking on the side streets immediately surrounding Gaynor Park. Limited parking is available on the side streets on the opposite side of Woodlawn Avenue.

Wear Your Jersey to School on Friday

We're incredibly excited about the day we have planned for all the amazing families of our community. In honor of Opening Day, we'd love it if our players would show their SJSLL pride on Friday, April 14. Wear your jersey to school on Friday and show your St. James-Smithtown colors.
